Department of Science and Mathematics Education (SMED)

  Aims

The Department of Science and Mathematics Education (SMED) of the College of Education seeks:

• To administer the University’s undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs in science and mathematics.

• To improve the quality of science and mathematics education from the primary to the tertiary level.

• To provide relevant pre-service, in-service and professional development programs for teacher trainees, for beginning and practicing teachers, and for education professionals.

• To undertake research and development projects in science and mathematics education and disseminate results to ensure their utilization.

• To organize activities that will promote the moral, spiritual, social and cultural development of students along with faculty, staff, and alumni.
